Crescent is a fantastic collaboration between two amazing musicians, Atzko Kohashi and Tony Overwater. It is a showcase of two talented artists combining to make wonderful music for us to consume. The performance is captured and mastered superbly, transporting the listener to what feels like about 10 feet away from the instruments, in the perfect listening position, which allows us to understand the interplay, to allow us to hear where each note emanates from.
Atzko Kohashi is a Japanese Jazz pianist based in Amsterdam. Her style of piano playing is a fusion of Jazz with subtle Oriental influences. Atzko plays with both precision and soul. Big chords with sustain, punctuated with flights of individual notes floating up and down the scales.
Tony Overwater is an award-winning Dutch Musician and Composer based in Rotterdam. His style is a fusion of Jazz with Arabic and Early Music influences. He is best known for playing Acoustic Bass and the Violone. In this instance, the Acoustic Bass is often the accompanying instrument, but never second fiddle.
Some may say this is an Audiophile recording, but I don’t think so. To me, it is just a truthful representation and a wonderful demonstration of the art of playing real musical instruments. The recording quality of this beautiful music is exceptional. The resonances and depth of the Acoustic Bass, the sustains on piano chords, with singular piano notes punctuating and alluring throughout, make this a fantastic listen.
