This trip to Vitus Audio had been a long time in the planning, and suddenly the end of March arrived, and it was time to go.
Originally organised as a dealer visit, we decided to extend invitations to a number of loyal Vitus Audio customers to join us and experience the new facilities in Herning, just 30 minutes from Billund, the home of LEGO.
Thankfully, everything went smoothly. Flights were on time, roads were clear, and most importantly, we made it there and back without losing anyone.
A warm Danish welcome
Hans-Ole Vitus , Britta, Alexander, and Lukas greeted us at the hotel and immediately made us feel at home. The evening took us to a local bar with its own brewery, perfect for food, drinks, and conversation.
It was a great opportunity to connect with our Vitus Audio partners, customers, and the team themselves. Business and pleasure blended effortlessly, just as planned.
Inside Vitus Audio HQ
The following morning brought the highlight of the trip: a visit to Vitus Audio HQ in Herning.
We were welcomed into a warm and welcoming reception area, boardroom, and the Vitus Museum. Hans guided us through the company’s history, showcasing early prototypes and “genesis” production models. Seeing the evolution of the brand laid out physically was something special.
Precision engineering at its finest
From there, we moved into production and nothing was hidden.
We witnessed:
- PCB manufacturing
- Component placement
- Robotic point-to-point soldering using nitrogen for longevity
- Climate-controlled storage ensuring optimal component conditions
- Products being built individually by hand
A standout was the suite of state-of-the-art machines handling this fully integrated process. Precision pick-and-place component assembly, followed by exact temperature soldering of every individual board. All done in-house, not outsourced work or bought in.
Quality control is relentless:
- Every board is visually inspected
- Then machine-verified via high-resolution imaging
- Checked for correct components, alignment, and soldering
- Individually tested for functionality
Only then does it move to final assembly.
Build, test… repeat
The iconic Vitus Audio chassis awaits in production, housing enormous capacitors and power supplies. The sheer scale, weight, and engineering presence are striking. Heat Sinks for thermal efficiency and raw power are evident everywhere.
Before leaving the factory, each unit undergoes:
- Full audio testing
- Final Visual Inspection
- Complete functionality checks
- This applies to every single product built by Vitus
Every product carries its own documented history—proof of meticulous, hand-built craftsmanship in Denmark. And if you’re lucky, your unit may even be signed by Britta.
Passion beyond production
The afternoon shifted from engineering to passion.
We were invited into R&D, a space where creativity truly lives. Vintage treasures filled the room: turntables, cassette decks, amplifiers, and speakers in various stages of restoration.
Highlights included:
- The one and only Nakamichi Dragon
- Classic transcription turntables
- Tonearms I had only ever seen in magazines,
- Legendary Amplifiers Everywhere
- Speakers of all shapes and sizes from all periods in history.
This wasn’t just a collection—it was a living archive of audio history, fuelling Vitus Audio’s relentless pursuit of perfection.
The listening experience
Then came the demo room. System one comprised a reel-to-reel playing master tape fed into a Vitus Audio Masterpiece MP-L201 Mk.II Line stage and MP-S201 Stereo power amplifier, driving Göbel Divin Noblesse speakers. The result? Pure, floating sound, effortless and immersive. A perspective would be that the MP-S201 weighs in at 125KG and only has a power output of 25wpc (@ 8 ohms in Class A mode). Irrelevant when coupled with the immense current on tap.
Tracks included:

- “OP8” by OP8
Every note carried space, precision, and emotion.
From ultimate to attainable
For the second system, we explored a more modest system:
- Streaming source
- SD-025 mk.II DAC Streamer
- SS-103 Stereo Power Amplifier
- YG Reference XX speakers
While the ultimate scale was slightly reduced, performance remained exceptional.

- “Real Blues (live, 1988)” Ray Brown Trio
The system delivered depth, realism, and emotional connection, transporting us straight into the performance.
Smiles all around. Ears thoroughly impressed.
